Job Description

Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care, and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Assists patients with hygiene, grooming and activities of daily living (bed bath, sponge, tub, shower, hair shampoo, nail and skin care, shaving, oral hygiene and assistance with dressing, laundry, etc.).Assists with restorative nursing procedures (i.e
  • range of motion).Responds to patient call lights.Assists in the admission, transfer and discharge of patients.Ensures patients' nutritional needs are met by assembling meal trays, heating up food, preparing snacks, feeding patients and meal clean up, as needed.Offers patients adequate fluids and records fluid intake, as required.Sets up and uses oxygen concentrators, oxygen tanks, oral suction, etc.Measures and records intake and output
  • Empties and records drainage from Hemovac, Foley Catheter, Jackson Pratt Drains, Nephrostomy tubes and Gastric suction.Assists patients with elimination including bathroom use, bedside commode, Foley care, incontinence care, enemas, colostomy/ileostomy bag changes with mature stomas and use of bedpans and urinals.Assists patient to take self-administered medication, as directed by RN.Takes patients' temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, girth, and records the results.Collects specimens, as requested.Maintains patient safety at all times.Provides safe transfer techniques in/out of bed, to chair or wheelchair, commode, and in/out of shower/tub
  • Utilizes mechanical lifts, as needed.Ambulates patients using assistance devices such as a cane or walker when appropriate.Makes occupied and unoccupied patient beds.Performs light housekeeping duties including removal of soiled linen and trash, dusting, wiping down surfaces in patient rooms and patient/family areas.Performs simple dressing checks and changes.Performs post mortem care.Performs related duties as required.*ADA Essential Functions Constant standing, walking, bending, stretching, lifting, pulling, pushing, turning

Job Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.Valid NYS Drivers License, required. Prior homecare or institutional experience, preferred. Ability to read and write in English, required.
