Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

1. Interviews, screens, and counsels clients in relation to drug and alcohol abuse problems.

2. Counsels clients in job training and placement.

3. Refers clients to other agencies in accordance with individual needs.

4. Maintains records and files on assigned caseloads.

5. Conducts educational and information sessions with clients.

6. Develops and conducts seminars, workshops, and training programs on the subject of drug and alcohol abuse.

7. Responds to requests from Security Staff as well as Armor Staff in accordance with Armor Facility Guidelines. This includes following the rules and regulations for employee conduct/behavior and chain of command set forth by the command staff as all times while working within the detention/correctional facility.

8. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of counseling drug and alcohol abusers;

• Understanding of social and clinical programs associated with drug and alcohol abusers;

• Adequate knowledge of the current literature and sources of information regarding drug and alcohol abuse problems; and

• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with clients, professional colleagues, and other agencies.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by the State with a Bachelor’s Degree

• And one (1) year of counseling experience in drug and/or alcohol abuse.

Note: Graduate education in social work or substance abuse counseling will be substituted for experience mentioned above on a year-for-year basis.

Or

• Registration as a credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC).

• Other relevant professional experiences or educational backgrounds will be considered as deemed appropriate. However, when licensure is required by local, state, federal or contractual guidelines, we will not alter our position on those requirements.
