Job Summary:
This Part Time Career Counselor position is temporary and reports to the Assistant Director of the Center for Career and Professional Development. Major duties include providing career counseling and related career development services to students, alumni, faculty, and staff, as well as developing and conducting workshops, class presentations, and similar programs in career exploration and choice, job search techniques, and other related career development topics.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills to successfully interact with our diverse community, along with the flexibility to adapt to varying needs, schedules, and responsibilities in a dynamic campus environment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
CAREER COUNSELING
Provides career counseling and related services to individuals and groups to ensure clients realize and accomplish their career goals.
- Supports clients through the career exploration process by administering and interpreting personality, interest, value, and skill assessments (such as the Strong Interest Inventory, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, StrengthsFinder, etc.)
- Counsels clients on job search strategies and graduate school assistance by:
- Reviewing resumes, cover letters, and application essays,
- Providing guidance on the interview process and mock interview sessions,
- Promoting the development of professional networks,
- Strategizing job and salary offer through negotiation,
- Supporting career management and advancement,
- And any other matter related to career development.
- Reviewing resumes, cover letters, and application essays,
- Assesses the needs of specific student populations including first generation students, graduate students, international students, veterans, students with disabilities, LGTBQ+ students, and/or Alumni.
- Develops and conducts career development related workshops and class presentations for specific and identified populations.
- Creates and implements programs that will lean into Regis being designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), serving the career development needs and priorities of Hispanic students.
- Analyzes and synthesizes labor market information to communicate to clients as they identify and pursue their career goals.
- Utilizes CCPD's career platform, Handshake, to track appointments and write detailed counseling notes, connect with employers and contacts, conduct student and employer analysis, etc.
TECHNOLOGY AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
- Manages the career centers online platforms, including appointment scheduling system, social media accounts, etc.
- Performs related duties as necessary to support the missions of the Center for Career and Professional Development and Regis University.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in counseling or related field or Master's degree in another field with a certificate in career counseling.
- One or more years of professional or graduate-level experience in career counseling within higher education.
- One or more years of professional or graduate-level experience in employer outreach and organizing career-related events.
- Experience in administering and facilitating Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory and StrengthsFinder.
- One or more years of professional or graduate-level experience in conducting workshops, class presentations, or other group training sessions, preferably in a career development context.
- Strong writing skills.
- Ability to work with internal and external teams.
- Ability to analytically and critically think when solving problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) preferred.
- Fluent in Spanish (verbal and written proficiency)
