The University of Texas Permian Basin's Department of Financial Aid welcomes applications for the position of Scholarship Counselor


Salary Range

$40,000.00 depending on qualifications

Essential Functions


The primary function of the Scholarship Counselor is to support the operations of the Financial Aid Office by managing and assisting other departments with scholarship inquiries. This role involves advising and communicating with students to ensure the accurate completion of financial aid applications and understanding of award processes. The Scholarship Counselor works independently to provide comprehensive financial aid counseling, exercise professional judgment when appropriate, and help prospective and current students navigate scholarship opportunities with clarity and confidence.

1. Deliver personalized financial aid counseling to students and their families. Guide them through the completion and submission of applications for all financial aid programs administered by the University in addition to performing additional duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.
2. Analyze, maintain, and monitor financial aid records to ensure accuracy and full compliance with federal regulations, institutional policies, and University auditing standards.
3. Ensure all financial aid practices and processes align with current federal guidelines and University auditing requirements.
4. Demonstrate exceptional customer service, communication, and organizational skills. Utilize advanced computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and database management to support office operations and student needs.
5. Actively counsel and support students and parents throughout the financial aid process, ensuring a clear understanding of available aid programs and application requirements.
6. Willingness and ability to travel as needed to represent the Financial Aid Office at University events, professional development activities, or off-site meetings.
7. Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions, cultivating respectful and positive working relationships with students, staff, and external partners.
8. Present financial aid information sessions to parents, current and prospective students, and other University stakeholders, promoting awareness and understanding of aid opportunities and processes.

1. Bachelor's Degree
2. Demonstrate commitment to our academic programs of distinction serving undergraduate and graduate students.
3. Self-motivated to stay current with emerging office technologies and recommend and implement improvements.

Preferred Qualifications


1. Professional experience in financial aid programs, banking, or accounting experience preferred.
2. Expert knowledge of Federal and State financial aid programs.
3. Familiarity with technical aspects of administering Title IV aid programs.
4. Two years experience

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.


Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
