Recovery Services-Therapeutic Community Alcohol & Drug Counselors use evidence-based treatment approaches in the treatment of offenders in prison who are in need of substance abuse recovery programming.

What you’ll do at OhioMHAS:
Duties of the Alcohol and Drug Counselor 1 include:
- At assigned correctional institution, conducts interviews and provides counseling services to clients in the Therapeutic Community
- Screens clients to determine eligibility for substance use disorder treatment services
- Completes assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and discharge planning on participants (documented in electronic health record)
- Participates as an active member of the treatment team
- Schedule is Monday-Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (Hours may vary)

Selected applicant(s) will be required to complete the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction's training at the Corrections Training Academy located in Orient, OH. This training is approximately 4 weeks in length.
This is an hourly position covered by the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of 09 on the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 Pay Range Schedule. This position is located within ODRC institution at Pickaway Correctional Institution.
Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Position Qualifications
On record as Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant in process of achieving ‘Chemical Dependency Counselor’ credential recognized by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board or other Ohio licensing authority with jurisdiction over professionals authorized to provide counseling services (e.g., Medical Board; Psychology Board; Nursing Board; Counselor & Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board); valid driver’s license.
