The Opportunity


FCA's Prevention- Hempstead Drug Program is seeking a Prevention Counselor who will provide advocacy, education, counseling and case management to at risk youth and families.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling within the Prevention Counseling framework and as prescribed by the client service plan.
  • Provide individual prevention counseling to young people at risk for substance use disorder, including completion of assessment tools, development of individualized service plan, and completion of case notes.
  • Facilitate parenting skills groups, family workshops, and individual evidenced based interventions onsite, in the community, and in classrooms at Middle and High Schools.
  • Maintain up to date statistics in the required database.
  • Perform outreach and education in the community related to Prevention Services and maintain current knowledge of community programs and client entitlements.
  • Assist Supervisor with developing and completing the annual Prevention program contract.
  • Complete evidence based assessments and make appropriate intra and external referrals
  • Provide counseling to clients that need more assistance with mental health, anger and trauma issues
  • Assist with screening of parents prior to admission to groups.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • BA in Psychology or related Human Service field preferred.
  • Credentialed Prevention Professional(CPP), Credentialed Prevention Specialist(CPS), or other counseling background(CASAC-T, BSW, MHC) preferred.
  • One year full time experience working with adolescents and groups
  • Valid and clean driver's license.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
