Summary
POSITION DEFINITION:
Under the supervision of site or program administrator, assists in the implementation and administration of assigned special program or project; enlists parental involvement in student's educational programs; performs varied tasks related to the assigned program or project including working with program participants, assisting in facilitating positive parent, school, community and student relationships, compiling data and preparing reports and other written materials.

Minimum Qualifications
Training:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
Experience:
One year experience in an educational program or related field preferred. Experience in family and/or community social service involvement desired. Some clerical experience desired.
Typing Requirement
-30 net words per minute
-A typing test will be administered to establish typing speed.
Additional Requirement: Some positions require itinerant personnel and may require a driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites.
Special Requirement
Proficiency (speak, read, write) in Spanish language in addition to English.

Work Schedule
This position typically works full-time, 8 hours/day, and observes an 11-month work calendar.
Salary and Benefits
The initial salary rate for a new employee is at the first step of the appropriate salary schedule for the position. The probationary period is 130 work days (not counting sick, industrial accident). Upon becoming permanent, a one-step salary advance shall be granted with future annual advances up to the fifth step of the salary schedule.

Physical Demands
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, squatting, reaching, and twisting at waist; sitting for extended periods; standing, walking, hand and finger dexterity for keyboarding/typing, use of computer mouse and touchpad, and writing instruments; vision and hearing in normal range with or without correction.
Work Environment
Work is performed indoors, and outdoors when necessary. Exposure to temperature swings in climate-controlled and outdoor environments; exposure to various noises from office equipment/machines, automobiles, staff and the public.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist in establishing and maintaining direct communication channels between the school/program and student's family.
- Assists in recruiting parents as volunteers within the school (e.g., classroom volunteers, workshop volunteers) for the purpose of increasing parent participation in school/program activities and in their child's education.
- Collaborates with the school staff for the purpose of developing programs and classes to support non-English speaking parents and students.
- Coordinates parental participation, organizes meetings and educational classes for program participants and encourages leadership (e.g., parenting skills, volunteer training) for the purpose of developing parenting skills, understanding of school processes and parent/student success.
- Aids in the explanation of district, school and program goals and objectives to the community.
- Travels to locations in the community where parent events are held, contacts parents by phone or where eligible children and families are located; visits participants' homes or other locations, as needed.
- Compiles, prepares and maintains files, records and reports related to assigned programs and participants; and organizes data for a variety of reports for the purpose of meeting program, district, state and federal requirements.
- Assists school/program staff, when needed.
- Translates and interprets for workshops, conferences, and other events.
- Attends a variety of workshops, conferences, seminars and community meetings/events, as required for the purpose of receiving and/or presenting information.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
