About Job

Chief Purpose of the Position
The Patient Care Coordinator will be part of VCU Dental Care. The incumbent is largely responsible for the ideal patient experience, collection, schedule management, and appointment coordination. Responsibilities include coordinating appointments and specialties, work hygiene recall cards, answer and respond to all patient inquiries i.e. phone, text, email. Collect payments, follow up on pre-authorizations, check schedule proactively and contact patients prior to appointments regarding costs of upcoming procedure/amount due. Act as liaison between providers/manager and patients.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required

  • Excellent customer service skills and willingness to assist patients, students, residents, faculty, and other staff.
  • Experience and working knowledge of dental terminology, preferred.
  • Superior telephone etiquette skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of Windows-based computers and data entry skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain multiple objectives simultaneously.
  • Ability to understand and explain patient account financial ledgers.
  • Must be flexible to work schedules for varying shifts.

Education level and experience required

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of customer service experience required
  • 2+ years of experience in the dental field is required.

Hiring Range: Commensurate with experience
