SAFE Alliance seeks a Sexual Assault Victim Advocate (SAVA) for the Community Services Program in the Sexual Assault Victim Advocacy department. SAVA's provide strengths-based, client-centered, trauma-informed follow-up advocacy and accompaniments to survivors. Accompaniments include medical (such as forensic exams, HIV prophylaxis, and strangulation care), law enforcement (such as delayed reports, kit conversions, and detective interviews), Title IX hearings, and court proceedings. SAVA's discuss medical and legal options, and explain The SAFE Alliance support services (such as counseling, legal advocacy, and follow-up services).

The SAFE Alliance exists to stop abuse for everyone by serving the survivors of child abuse, sexual assault and exploitation, and domestic violence. We are dedicated to ending violence through prevention, advocacy, and comprehensive services for individuals, families, and communities that have been affected by abuse.

In the past two years, our community outreach and education has provided over 400 trainings to over 7,000 community members. Our various housing and shelter programs have provided over 46,000 nights/days of care and served over 3,000 youth and adults directly affected by abuse. We have provided over 10,000 callers/chats/texts, walk-in advocacy and crisis interventions or face-to-face emotional support through our 24/7 confidential SAFEline.

Position Details

We are looking for one person to work on a full-time, exempt basis for an annual salary of $48,000 to $50,000 dependent upon experience and an additional annual language differential of $3,600 for those who are English/Spanish bilingual. The work location will be based at our Rathgeber Village Campus in the Mueller area. This position will include some travel in the community or between campuses with no ability for remote/hybrid work. SAVA's must have and maintain reliable transportation and be able to arrive at any medical facility in Travis County within 1 hour. The shift currently available is a full-time (40 hours per week), including evening/night/weekend hours as required. This position requires a flexible work schedule in order to meet the demands of the Sexual Assault Victim Advocacy program as the department maintains a staggered workweek to provide 24/7 services. Attendance is required once a month at an evening team meeting. This position currently requires you to participate in an On-Call schedule/rotation. This position is on-call 3 consecutive days a week for 12-hour shifts and receives an additional annual on-call stipend of $2,000.

Required Qualifications

  • Possess a Bachelor's Degree in social or behavioral sciences, or related field is required.
  • Equivalent years of professional-level relevant experience is acceptable in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum 1 year experience providing crisis stabilization support and advocacy or case management services to trauma/sexual assault survivors is required.
  • Familiarity with risk assessment and safety planning strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of issues related to violence against women, sexual assault, domestic violence and human trafficking is required.
  • Ability to quickly and confidently establish rapport and connection.
  • Knowledgeable about local medical, criminal justice and social service agencies preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Bilingual fluency in English/Spanish is strongly preferred; fluency being the ability to clearly and accurately communicate to convey information using the Spanish language, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in the use of office applications and data entry is required as significant computer work is required.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills is required; attention to detail, work with accuracy and ability to maintain neat, well-organized records in a timely manner.
  • Ability to preform primarily non-sedentary work requiring exertion up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Must be sighted and hearing, with reasonable accommodations, and able to stand in small spaces for 1 or more hours during accompaniments.
  • Working in medical environments may include exposure to patients with a multitude of medical conditions. Hazards include exposure to communicable diseases and blood borne pathogen exposure. Emergency Departments recommend annual flu shot. COVID19 vaccination is required for clinic and hospital clearance.
  • Advocates are dispatched to any medical facility in Travis County and must present to accompaniment site within one hour of dispatch.
  • This position requires driving.
  • You must have a valid, State of Texas Driver's License (If in possession of an out-of-state license, obtain a State of Texas Driver's License within 90 days of beginning employment.) AND at least three (3) consecutive years of driving experience OR one (1) year of driving experience if over 27 years of age AND an acceptable driving record that covers at least the last three years of driver history.
  • This position requires completion of the 40-Hour Office of Attorney General Sexual Assault Advocacy Training Program in person within six (6) months of starting employment, along with participating in annual continuing education throughout your employment.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check if applicable), as well as a pre-employment drug screen and TB test, if applicable.
