JOB DESCRIPTION: Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR) Counselor

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Clinical Director

POSITION SUPERVISED: None

Requirements:

· Minimum of an Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred

· Minimum credentials of LCDC II or LSW; LCDC III, LICDC, and LISW also considered.

· One year of experience working in the Chemical Dependency/Mental Health Field

· Extensive knowledge of 12-step programs, abstinence-based treatment, and medication assisted recovery models

· Excellent oral and written communication skills

· Computer competency; EMR experience a plus

· Willingness to work with a team of staff members to implement program activities

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR) Program counselor provides outpatient treatment services for the clients in the MAR program. . Counselors must be able to assess client status and progress at varying time frames through their programming, conduct groups, conduct individual sessions, conduct UDS’s, and complete documentation in a timely fashion. The counselor facilitates group on a daily basis, working within a multidisciplinary team in order to help the client progress through the program successfully.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

· Ensure that the program activities are consistent with the mission, vision and values of Stella Maris, Inc.

· Provide continuity and coverage for clients through Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, and Non-Intensive Outpatient Services.

· Facilitate groups using evidence-based models including Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and DBT..

· Ability to accurately document client’s progress and response to varying therapeutic interventions in a timely manner

· Develop Individual Treatment Plans based on the client’s personal strengths, areas for improvement, and goals.

· Compose Transfer/Discharge Plans and Summaries, based on ASAM criteria and clinical judgement, ensuring clients’ smooth transition to the next level of care.

· Assist multi-disciplinary team and management to oversee all client activities during assigned shift and provide clients with support and guidance.

· Provide Individual sessions for clients in the program

· Communicate with staff members, visitors, and clients in a respectful and professional manner at all times.

· Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with other staff/disciplines as part of an interdisciplinary team.

· Complete all required agency annual compliance trainings.

· Demonstrate knowledge of addiction and withdrawal process, post-acute withdrawal, and medication assisted treatment.

· Demonstrate knowledge of assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s (ASAM) levels of care.

· Ability to establish therapeutic alliance with clients/peers.

· Ability to develop and implement a case management treatment plan.

· Understanding of standards of care established by OhioMHAS and Joint Commission.

· Demonstrates knowledge of community resources for clients.

· Ability to represent Stella Maris with external agencies/professionals

· Maintains CPR certification.

· Uphold client confidentiality and client rights.

· Performs other duties of the position and within the individual’s capabilities as assigned by supervisor.
