Chief of Psychiatrist - MANAGING PHYSICIAN/PSYCHIATRIST
Under general supervision of a Chief Executive Officer or other higher level supervisory official in a state department, institution, or agency, has the managerial responsibility (both administrative and clinical) for a section of medical/psychiatric service or a specific medical/psychiatric unit or program; performs related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Administers and coordinates the medical/psychiatric services for an assigned area. Ensures compliance with all medical/psychiatric policies, directives, rules, and regulations, and performance standards of the state, the department, the appropriate division, the institution or agency, accrediting bodies, and so forth.
Ensures the proper conduct and management of an assigned area, the conduct of assigned employees, the care and treatment of patients to ensure quality services are provided, and is responsible and accountable for the delivery of direct treatment services to patients.
Provides medical/psychiatric decisions and consultative and advisory services to medical/psychiatric staff and other personnel engaged in the care and treatment of patients, and directs the activities of these individuals.
Manages work operations and/or functional programs, and has responsibility for employee evaluations and for effectively recommending the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting, and/or disciplining of employees.
Responsible for developing the assigned area's basic policy principles, unified services, operation procedures, and formulation of goals and philosophy of care.
Plans, organizes, and implements medical/psychiatric programs of care. Evaluates, with appropriate staff, the effectiveness of programs and also makes rounds as part of this evaluation process.
Conducts, attends, and/or assists in medical/psychiatric education activities, staff meetings, and interdisciplinary meetings.
Attends meetings and hearings as a representative of the institution or agency when designated.
Represents the views, needs, concerns, and policy proposals of the medical/psychiatric staff to the appropriate supervisory level at the institution or agency.
Assists in the preparation of the assigned area's budget, and ensures resources are effectively and efficiently utilized so that the achievement of goals is met.
As required, performs direct clinical responsibilities by providing medical/psychiatric services to patients.
Ensures the quality control of medical/psychiatric staff and serves as a member of the institution's or agency's Credentials Committee, as assigned.
Assists with the recruitment of medical/psychiatric staff and serves as a member of the institution's or agency's Credentials Committee, as assigned.
In cooperation with other staff members, ensures the proper completion and maintenance of patients' medical/psychiatric records, reports, and so forth.
Supervises and evaluates the clinical performance of the medical physicians, consultants, and dentists. Provides consultation services to physicians and dentists.
Keeps medical staff informed of current advances in the field of medicine through continuing medical education.
Regularly conducts rounds to assess whether medical Physicians are adequately responsive to other clinical staff and patient care needs.
Develops programs and policies and evaluates and/or revises existing policies as necessary to address patient care needs.
Provides ancillary services to patients in a timely and efficient manner.
Monitors and evaluates the quality of care provided to patients while being treated in outside facilities.
Communicates with treating clinicians in the community hospitals and has knowledge of the clinical status of the patients.
Identifies and participates in relevant quality improvement activities.
Reviews findings from quality improvement monitoring.
Ensures medical and psychiatric coverage at all times.
Ensures that all Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) shifts are covered.
Receives and reviews MOD daily reports and ensures appropriate and timely follow up as needed.
Exercises teamwork by working collaboratively as a team member to accomplish stated goals.
Participates in selection process of subordinate staff.
Makes recommendations to CEO to address deficiencies in staffing as prescribed by Joint Commission (JC) and Center for Medicare and Medicaid standards (CMS).
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information system used by the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
Experience Three (3) years of clinical experience in the practice of psychiatry or clinical specialty, one (1) year of which shall have been in a managerial capacity.
LICENSE:
Applicants must possess a license to practice medicine and surgery issued by the State of New Jersey as well as certification or eligibility for certification by the American Board of the specialty.

Pay: $150.00 - $160.00 per hour
