The Town of Norwood is looking to hire a part-time Community Liaison for climate resiliency. Our goal is to engage and build partnerships with underserved and historically marginalized diverse populations in our community. We also welcome members of our community who have experienced the challenges of financial, economic and housing insecurity due to systemic inequities. The position will focus on understanding the impacts of climate change such as increased flooding, storms, and heat, on underrepresented community groups, as well as identifying priorities for the town’s resiliency efforts. The Community Liaison will also publicize and coordinate an opportunity for residents to plant trees, using grant funds to give free trees to residents who are able to plant them and care for them for at least two years.
The Neponset River Watershed Association (NepRWA) will support the work of the Community Liaison, based on their long-term partnership with the Town of Norwood on similar issues, and the activities of the Neponset Region Climate Resilience and Flood Model project. Specifically, NepRWA will support the community liaison in identifying effective means of communication and outreach. NepRWA will also assist in promoting events and activities through existing networks and activities
Essential Job Functions :
- The Community Liaison will develop an outreach plan to maximize participation in outreach and information gathering about stormwater and other climate change impacts, as well as a tree partnership by residents and small businesses.
- Additionally, they will develop educational and promotional materials (e.g., social media posts and paid ads, flyers, press releases). The tree partnership will provide free trees to residents who agree to water and care for the trees for at least two years.
- Work closely with NepRWA and town staff including the Community Development Department and the Stormwater Manager.
- Organize, promote, and facilitate engagement activities with members of the community to gather insight about community needs and factors that contribute to social vulnerability (e.g., creating and distributing surveys, hosting community dinners or pop up events to gather input, sharing information via social media and listservs, hosting interviews or focus groups, etc.) ;
- Work with Community Development Department to update Norwood’s priorities for building community resilience to climate change via meetings and outreach to the community to vet the priorities
- Develop and maintain trusting relationships in the community.
- Represent community interests within the organization, ensuring programs align with community needs, gather feedback and data on community engagement efforts; prepare reports to assess impact and effectiveness.
Please Note: This position is responsible for their own transportation and transportation costs within the Town of Norwood. This position may require evening work and/or weekend work, depending on community engagement needs.
Minimum Requirements : *
- Experience in community organizing and/or advocacy, demonstrated active relationships with the Norwood Community
