General Statement of Duties
Position requires interaction with individuals from across the community as well as stakeholders in the region. This position will be responsible for the safe transportation of consumers and clients of Polk County Consolidated Health and Human Services Agency's Social Services Division. This position involves the skilled and safe operation of a motor vehicle within the State of North Carolina and neighboring states. Employees have the principal responsibility of independently providing transportation and custodial supervision of juveniles to the appropriate facility or designated locations. Employees may be required to respond to emergency transportation and custodial needs. Work requires employees to be physically able to operate a motor vehicle and to operate child seat restraint devices/equipment. Work includes interactions with juveniles, families, providers, and caregivers. Decisions made impact the protection of state property as well as the physical safety of the juveniles, the employee and staff. Employees complete and maintain specific reports of all activities relating to the transportation and supervision of each juvenile served. Work is evaluated in terms of safe and prompt delivery of juveniles and/or reports and legal documents according to prescribed procedures. This position is subject to funding availability.
Examples of Duties
All HHSA employees may be called upon to perform work during emergency or disaster situations including but not limited to staffing shelters overnight. This service, if required, will take precedence over duties described in this position description.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of the rules, regulations and policies for safe vehicle operation and the ability to drive a motor vehicle safely and efficiently.
- Working knowledge of state highway systems and municipal streets.
- Ability to learn and apply routine operational, transportation and security procedures, utilizing defensive driving skills and judgment to safely operate the vehicle and ensure the safety of the juveniles.
- Ability to effectively communicate with others and maintain close personal contact with juveniles that are being transported or monitored in a secure custodial situation.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports.
- Computer Skills, to include: Excel, Internet Explorer/Chrome, and Word

Typical Qualifications
Minimum Requirements and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
- Required to successfully pass training in transportation and child safety seat installation.
- Valid driver's license.
- Applicant must be at least twenty years old.
- Successful pre-employment drug screen.
- Successful criminal Background check.
