About Job

Position Summary 

Hockey coaches will deliver best-in-class on and off-ice instructional experiences to participants of the learn to skate and hockey programs and will embrace and work within a collaborative team-coaching environment. They will provide professional and exemplary customer service to all guests, employees, and the community in adherence with Wollman Rink policies, rules and regulations to ensure a safe and world class environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide ice skating instruction to students as young as 3 years old using the Learn to Skate USA program, effectively instructing students in all elements of class level.

· Provide specialized individual and group instruction to aspiring hockey players of all ages.

· Maintain a positive, creative, upbeat class environment using age-appropriate games and props to keep students moving and engaged.

· Develop lesson and practice plans and training goals for all group and private lesson students and communicate these plans with students and parents.

· Attend coaching staff team meetings and actively participate in mentorship of junior coaches.

· Encourage appropriate behavior of students with an emphasis on safety and community/team building.

· Deliver outstanding customer service to all guests of Wollman Rink.

· Develop a deep understanding of all skate school programs and arena offerings and promote wider Wollman Rink engagement among all students.

· Assist with setting up and breaking down lesson area border wall before and after lessons.

· Partner with staff, clientele and community partners, to maintain a positive, productive atmosphere conducive to the advancement of skating in New York City.

· Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Must have advanced ice-skating skills, with a background in hockey. 

· Prior experience working with children in a recreational, camp, sporting or academic setting preferred.

· Prior experience coaching developmental hockey.

· Familiarity and experience with USA Hockey’s ADM program and curriculum.

· Individuals who have a talent for connecting with very young children are strongly encouraged to apply.

· Must be highly reliable and punctual.
