Purpose
The Financial Aid Counselor III-TLS/Terry position possesses a level of knowledge that allows them to assist with setting procedures, monitoring various reports, and ensuring completion of projects assigned by their direct supervisor and upper management. Serves as financial aid advisor for an assigned caseload of scholarship awardees, including Texas Leadership Scholars, Terry Scholars, Impact Scholars, and University Leadership Network students.
Responsibilities
Bachelor's degree. A combination of 4 years of experience in student financial aid, student personnel, student services, or related experience. Willing to work evening and weekend events as required. Occasional overnight travel may be required. Must be organized, detail oriented, and customer focused. Candidate must have superior communication and time management skills and a professional demeanor. Must be capable of multi-tasking in a high stress environment. Must be able to prioritize work assignments to complete work within required time periods. Must divest of any stock or ownership interest in student loan lender before start of employment. Shares in publicly traded mutual fund or similar investment vehicle are exempt. For more info, read the UT Austin Policy on Individual Conflicts of Interest. As a condition of hire and continued employment, must be in good standing on all federal student loans and must grant permission for the office to access NSLDS to verify such standing.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree. More than the required years of experience. Extremely detail oriented. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to handle stressful situations with composure. Knowledge of and proficiency with software including MS Word and Excel. Ideal candidate will be able to set priorities and manage multiple projects. Ability to remain productive in a fast-paced, shared
space environment with frequent interruptions. Spanish-speaking.
Salary Range
$54,000

Responsibilities
- Monitors financial aid files for scholarship students by reviewing student eligibility and verification issues, awarding financial aid, and resolving financial aid disbursement issues. Monitor and verify applicant eligibility. Reviews continuing students’ eligibility for scholarship renewal. Assist students during orientation and registration as needed. Research process and procedural problems and recommend solutions to remove barriers. Proactively identify students affected by financial aid barriers through data review and analysis. Communicate with students regarding their scholarship, financial aid, and other applicable information.
- Maintain policies and procedures manuals for programs and how they interact with other aid. Prepare and maintain forms, reports, and files. Maintains up-to-date knowledge on laws, regulations, and policies governing programs administered by OSFA and other campus partners. Ensures relevant parties are informed of regulations. Coordinates with scholarship foundations, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and other UT offices to ensure scholarship funds are compliant with source requirements. Interact with other University departments, state and federal agencies, and industry partners.
- Assist OSFA with financial aid and scholarship processing, including monitoring output, verifying applicant eligibility, and resolving eligibility issues. Review and resolve financial aid and scholarship files. Award state, university, and federal financial aid funds to students.
