Schedule: Monday to Friday, evening hours
REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from a four-year college or university in human services or a related field and two years of progressive substance use counseling experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Licensure/Certification: LCSW, LCMHC, or LPA preferred.
Position Highlights:
Provides independent diagnostic, psycho-social, and professional counseling for clients with complex substance use, mental health, and co-occurring disorders, with an appropriate level of supervision. This position will serve clients within the Brunswick Outpatient MH/SUD Office and will also provide specialized services within the Hospital Emergency Room (ER).
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASSIFICATION:
- Provides independent diagnostic, psycho-social, and substance use evaluations and counseling, focusing on complex substance use and its impact on daily living, individual, and family relationships.
- Evaluates clients' situations and their ability to address problems; conducts in-depth clinical interviews to determine psycho-social and substance use history, formulates psycho-social assessments and initial treatment plans; provides in-depth counseling ranging from crisis intervention to addressing personality disorders associated with addictive and/or abusive behavior, and provides follow-up.
- Specialized ER Role: In the Hospital Emergency Room, the Therapist will complete initial registrations and Comprehensive Clinical Assessments (CCAs) for patients presenting with psychiatric or substance use disorder needs. This includes making immediate recommendations for treatment for clients who are being discharged from the ER or who require transfer to a different level of care or location (e.g., acute inpatient, detox, longer-term treatment). This role requires close coordination with ER staff.
- Manages a complex caseload with a preponderance of adults, adolescents, and families with substance use, mental health, and co-occurring disorder patients.
- Utilizes individualized counseling methods including individual and group modalities, incorporating reality, cognitive-behavioral, family, and supportive approaches based on client needs.
