Position Title: Danish Language Summer Camp Junior Counselor - Embedded Within the Norwegian Village (2025)

Position Type: CLV Seasonal - Summer

Employment Status: Seasonal

Number of Months: 2

General Employment Period: June – July

General Work Schedule: Up to seven days per week

General Shift Hours: 14 – 16 hours per day, plus overnight residential supervision responsibilities

Minimum Salary: starting at $165 per week



Job Summary/Basic Function

Under the direction of the camp (“Village”) dean, junior counselors teach language and culture to summer camp participants. For the summer of 2025, Danish language offerings will be embedded within the Norwegian Village. Danish-speaking staff will be working collaboratively with Norwegian staff in cabins of mixed Danish and Norwegian villagers, at mealtimes, activity times, beach times and other times throughout the day. Danish counseling staff will be responsible for two hours of daily, exclusively Danish instruction for Danish villagers. Further schedules and work details will be discussed in interviews.

You will:

  • Speak the target language with children (“villagers”) and other staff members as much as possible.
  • Co-teach language through activities (art, sports, traditional culture) with assistance from other staff members.
  • Co-lead games, Cabin Council and other activities to create a cabin community.
  • Participate in all aspects of Village life, including meals, song times, evening programs, cultural presentations and staff meetings.
  • Live in a cabin with villagers, with the counseling team, to provide overnight supervision.
  • Assist with light cleaning of the Village site (including cabins, bathrooms, activity areas, etc.) with villagers and the counseling team to ensure a safe, hygienic space for everyone.
  • Be a positive role model for desired behaviors among villagers, including use of target language.

  • Demonstrates maturity & good judgment
  • Enjoy interacting with and managing children
  • Demonstrated flexibility in adapting to changing situations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed two years of language study or equivalent; broad knowledge of the culture and activities of the target language.
  • Turned at least 16 years of age and completed junior year of high school
  • Eligible to work in the United States


Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience working with children
  • Previous attendance at Concordia Language Villages or another summer camp
