Part-Time Aftercare Counselor at Somerset Academy Avenir Elementary School

Job Title: Part-Time Aftercare Counselor
Location: Somerset Academy Avenir, Palm Beach Gardens, FL
Reports To: Aftercare Director / School Principal
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM (student attendance days only)
Start Date: August 8, 2025

Position Overview:

Somerset Academy Avenir is seeking a responsible, caring, and enthusiastic Part-Time Aftercare Counselor to supervise and support students during our after-school program. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with children and creating a safe, positive, and engaging environment for students after the school day ends.

Key Responsibilities:

Actively supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of students during aftercare hours
Organize and facilitate age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities, games, crafts, and homework support
Maintain a structured, respectful environment while encouraging student choice, creativity, and fun
Monitor student behavior and implement school-wide expectations and positive behavior supports
Communicate professionally and effectively with students, parents, and staff
Ensure accurate daily attendance records and sign-out procedures
Maintain cleanliness and organization of aftercare spaces
Respond to emergencies and administer basic first aid if needed (training provided)
Assist with setup and cleanup of snacks, activities, and materials

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; some college or coursework in education or child development preferred
Experience working with elementary-aged children (in a school, camp, or child care setting) preferred
Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
Level II background and drug screenings required prior to employment
