Academic Residential Counselor

About the Residential Counselor position:

Acts as a consistent and positive role model while providing supervision and mentorship to all residents within a therapeutic residential environment. Fosters a physically and emotionally safe atmosphere through reliable presence, active engagement, and compassionate care for both assigned residents and the broader community. Exhibits professionalism and dependability by arriving on time and prioritizing resident safety and well-being in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.

Upholds all program protocols, schedules, policies, and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook, including adherence to the daily resident schedule. Supports academic development by assisting students in achieving their educational goals and working collaboratively with the Academic Coordinator to design and implement engaging experiential learning and physical education opportunities. Helps maintain organized, intentional academic spaces that foster a positive and healing learning environment.

Contributes to the daily rhythm of the program by assisting with morning routines and school transitions. Partners closely with the Program Director and Program Manager to uphold program values and ensure the delivery of high-quality, client-centered care.

Residential Counselor Qualifications:

· High School diploma or equivalent [those with Bachelor's Degrees and a desire to learn and grow in the field of Behavioral Health are encouraged to apply]

· 1+ years working with youth/adolescent population

· At least 21 years of age

· CPR and First Aid certification [Training to be provided by program]

· Valid driver’s license & clean driving record

· Ability to work alone or within a team

· Preferred qualifications include experience or education in special education, physical fitness, or wellness.

About the Organization:

Then come join us at BlueRock! BlueRock is a Level 2 residential placement option for local youth ages 12-17 located on a picturesque 30 acre campus in Bat Cave, NC. BlueRock is a niche program designed to offer additional support for youth who have completed programming at a higher level of care who require additional skills prior to a step down to community or home settings OR as a diversion for those who don’t quite meet the criteria for a higher level of care. We offer a relationship-based model rooted in the belief that trusting relationships drive change. BlueRock students engage in daily clinical and academic programming which is supported by experiential therapy activities. The program is located on a former summer camp with access to fishing, hiking, and other outdoor activities. As a CARF accredited placement option, BlueRock offers 24 beds with an average length of stay of 90-180 days.The BlueRock mission is grounded in creating access to clinical and therapeutic programming for those in Western North Carolina who need it most while remaining focused on breaking the cycle of treatment by creating healthy children, adults and communities.
