Summary
The behavior interventionist assists in a special education classroom to support students with autism and significant behavioral needs in a special education setting. Responsible for working one-on-one or in small groups, assisting with lessons, collecting data, and supporting behavior plans under the guidance of the teacher, behavior consultant, and technician.

Education/Experience
Complete 60 hours of college credit
Have an Associate's Degree or higher
Pass the Paraprofessional Assessment - Para Praxis OR
Complete 20 hours of online training through DESE

Responsible for working one-on-one or in small groups, assisting with lessons, collecting data, and supporting behavior plans under the guidance of the teacher, behavior consultant, and technician.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The person who holds this position has the responsibility to:
- Support students with classroom lessons and curriculum acti
- Use behavior support strategies to encourage positive behaviors
- Create and adapt learning materials to meet individual student needs
- Help students stay on task and complete assignments
- Read aloud to individual students or small groups as needed
- Assist with lifting, transferring, or helping students with mobility challenges
- Support students with personal care, including diapering and toilet training
- Keep accurate records and document student progress and behaviors
- Maintain daily logs, journals, and required documentation
- Help students with motor skills or physical limitations participate in classroom activities
- Keep the classroom environment structured, calm and organized
- Follow the teacher's lesson plans, routines, and instructions
- Follow all directions related to student plans and support needs
- Perform other suits as assigned to support students and the classroom
Qualifications
Education/Experience
Complete 60 hours of college credit
Have an Associate's Degree or higher

Physical Demands
- Occasionally lift 100 pounds
- Frequently walk up and down stairs while assisting students
- Frequently walk on a variety of ground surfaces, including, but not limited to, paved, gravel, grass, or dirt
- Frequently bend and twist the torso and neck
- Frequently squat or kneel to the ground
- Frequently use repetitive arm, wrist and hand movements
- Use close, distance and peripheral vision as well as depth perception
