SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR
SUMMARY
Full Time. Days. 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Weekend rotation required.
Maintains communication with other members of the chemical dependency treatment team.
Acts as Case Manager for patients, functioning as a social worker when necessary to prepare patients for discharge.
Counsels patients on an individual basis.
Conducts group therapy as primary facilitator.
Prepares Master Treatment Plans, Psychosocial interview forms and meaningful Aftercare Plans in concert with the needs of the patient.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
A minimum Bachelor's Degree in counseling, psychology, education, social work or other behavioral science curriculum, Master's Degree preferred, or have earned a Pennsylvania Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (C.A.D.C.) certification prior to the degree requirement.
Must have a certification in the counseling field, preferably C.A.D.C. through the Pennsylvania Certification Board, or if degreed, be able to pursue and achieve certification within two years of hire with acquired hours of employment.
A minimum of one (1) year of counseling experience, where this is designated within the employment history job description, preferably with drug and alcohol treatment populations. Therapeutic Support Staff (T.S.S.) does not qualify toward this experience.
Must have knowledge and understanding of the 12-step recovery Program.
Must have the written and verbal communication skills necessary to effectively and accurately interact with other members of the multidisciplinary/ healthcare team, as well as referral sources, 12-step support groups, and patients and their significant others. A basic knowledge of local social service agencies is recommended.
Current BLS Healthcare Provider card.
