Summary

The Counseling Coordinator provides support to the Counseling Director and assists the director in the provision of supervision to Victim Assistance Center’s staff in the absence of the counseling director. The counseling Coordinator is responsible for providing training for YWCA York staff regarding trauma, best practices, and other related topics. The Counseling Coordinator represents YWCA York and Victim Assistance Center as directed by the counseling director. Must be dedicated to the mission of the YWCA York.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing individual counseling to children, adolescent and adult victims, and their significant others.
  • Assist the counseling director in recruiting and training the Victim Assistance Center staff.
  • Assist the counseling director in the supervision of the staff at the Victim Assistance Center and in developing and maintaining a unified counseling team.
  • Assist the counseling director in the planning, development, and implementation of multiple support groups and activities for all victim services departments.
  • Provide training specific to the dynamics of victimization to other community professionals as requested and to volunteers, and new staff throughout YWCA York.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other resources in the community and represent our agency at local alliance/coalition meetings and events as needed. These events may be outside of the standard work day or on weekends.
  • Adhere to accepted standards of ethical practice as outlined in the NASW, ACA, or APA Code of Ethics, depending on graduate training.
  • Other VOCA duties as assigned by the Counseling Director.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push, and/or pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and typing.


Education and Experience

  • Masters degree in counseling, psychology, or social work is required.
  • Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience working with trauma victims.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sexual assault and incest dynamics and appropriate interventions preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the needs of victims of sexual violence and other violent crimes.
  • Must be available to work in York and potential satellite offices.
  • Knowledge of community social service resources is helpful.
  • Must complete PCAR/PCCD/PCADV-required Advocate Training within 90 days of employment.
  • Candidate must complete Act 34, Act 151, and FBI clearances.
