Job Description - Art Therapist

Job Type: Part-time independent contractor

Reports to: Creative Arts Therapies Director

Salary: $35 or more per hour (rate based on experience). Bi-weekly payroll (1099, 26 pays per year)

About Fairmount Center for the Arts

The mission of Fairmount Center for the Arts is to enrich lives through the arts. The Novelty Campus is located in Russell Township in west Geauga county, Fairmount offers high quality dance, fitness, music, theatre, visual arts, S.T.E.A.M., and creative arts therapies programs and workshops in a supportive, nurturing environment. The Novelty Campus building has multiple studios, including one large dance/theatre studio on the main floor. Two additional smaller studios are located on the second floor, accessible by stairs.

Fairmount has a second studio in Chardon which hosts select arts and therapy programming for homeschool students, children, teens, and adults. The studio is located at 101 Main Street (Suite 105), Chardon, OH 44024. It is a second floor location accessible only by stairs.

Outreach: Fairmount offers additional teaching opportunities at other locations throughout the community. Outreach programs are designed to accommodate various mediums, techniques, and age groups.

About Creative Arts Therapies at Fairmount

Creative Arts Therapies at Fairmount harness the power of artistic expression to support emotional healing and personal growth. Using mediums such as dance, music, visual arts, drama, and poetry, these therapeutic interventions encourage self-awareness, emotional expression, and overall well-being. Fairmount’s Creative Arts Therapies program emphasizes the psychotherapeutic benefits of these creative expressions.

Creative Arts Therapies offer powerful tools for self-expression, emotional regulation, and personal growth. By blending various forms of creative expression, this holistic approach creates space for clients to explore, process, and transform life experiences in a meaningful way. Each session is personalized, ensuring that the client’s journey is as unique as they are. Our licensed and credentialed therapists guide individuals of all ages in accessing their inherent strengths through creative modalities. No prior arts experience is necessary.

Responsibilities:

● Provision of Art Therapy (AT) services to groups and individuals within the Geauga county community and surrounding areas; services may take place at either of our formal locations (Chardon and Novelty), or out in the community at partner sites.

● Art Therapist will be responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating art therapy interventions and in addressing the psychosocial and physiological needs of clients and their caregivers throughout the continuum of care.

● They must be open and enthusiastic to offer arts-based interventions as part of an interdisciplinary therapeutic team.

● The Art Therapist will utilize evidence-based practices and materials to facilitate therapies and will demonstrate competencies as an art therapist.

● The AT will identify targeted outcome measures to support clients in achieving an enhanced quality of life results, with reduced adverse stress responses to life experiences.

● The Art Therapist is accomplished in the use of various media to stimulate psychosocial process, adapts intervention to a variety of settings, and utilizes individualized interventions to meet specific needs of the client.

● The department typically operates 9:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday, though evening and weekends may be required for execution of roles and responsibilities, particularly to onsite facilitation of groups, sessions, and outreach activities.

● The Art Therapist will understand their role as an ambassador and advocate for Fairmount Center for the Arts in the community, in and outside of session; they will promote the core principles of respect, support, collaboration, passion, professionalism, innovation, and inclusion while representing the organization.

Position Requirements:

● Master's degree in art therapy with board certification or working toward board certification under supervision (ATR-P or ATR-BC); external AT supervision is required.

● Eligibility to sit for professional counseling licensure (LPC) required within the first year of hire.

● Demonstrates experience in group facilitation as well as adult and child/adolescent instruction.

● Strong program development and project management skills.

● Demonstrates experience in research and evaluation.

● Excellent written and oral communication skills required.

● Maintaining appropriate Ohio licensure and all credentialing board requirements.

● Ongoing advancement of knowledge related to program areas and expertise of delivery.

● Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
