About Job

The School Psychologist provides support and modeling to staff in behavior intervention strategies. Support staff in identifying and working through problem behaviors. Provide ongoing professional development in the area of behavior and techniques and modeling of behavior intervention support to staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Work collaboratively with staff to promote positive student behavior by providing professional development that targets strategies and modeling of instructional practices to support staff in their implementation of positive support and PBIS.
  • Demonstrate expertise in the area of data collection and behavior analysis.
  • Develops functional assessments and behavior intervention plans that incorporate instructional methodologies for staff.
  • Provides training in the use of data collection, positive behavior supports, intervention techniques and instructional methodologies for staff.
  • Assist staff working with children with autism and/or developmental disabilities on teaching skill deficits, maintaining acquired skills, teaching self-help skills and developing play/ social skills.
  • Develop materials and provide resources for and provide professional development to staff and parents/guardians.
  • Attend IEP meetings, or other building/students’ meetings as necessary and provide related behavioral information.
  • Work with students who exhibit significant behaviors and/or have behavior 1:1 aides to provide support and professional learning for staff who work with such students.
  • Conducts functional behavior assessments and educational assessments, accurately identifying the function of challenging behavior and socially valid, pivotal behaviors to target.
  • Completes reports and other paperwork within the established timeframes.
  • Conduct family support groups and family training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Programming/Chief Program Officer
  • Certification: NY State School Psychologist License
  • Education: Required - Master's Degree in Psychology
  • Experience: Required - Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a school psychologist working with preschool children with ASD and Developmental Disabilities
