POSITION
School Psychologist
DEFINITION OF POSITION
The school psychologist offers direct and indirect services that help students achieve maximum educational benefit from the instructional program in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Process student referrals at each school by determining appropriate action, including but not limited to: review of pupil records, observations, interviews, testing, consultation, and referral.
- Conduct individual assessments and diagnose specific learning, behavioral and emotional disabilities.
- Recommend a specific and practical plan of action for each student referred, to include remediation activities and suggestions to modify the regular education program to meet the student’s needs.
- Consult with teachers to help them develop and implement classroom methods and procedures designed to facilitate student learning and behavior.
- Consult with parents to assist them in understanding and meeting the needs of their children.
- Consult with site administrator concerning appropriate learning objectives, and developmental and remedial programs for students in regular and special education programs.
- Plan and coordinate with community agencies to provide needed services to students and their families.
- Coordinate with other Pupil Personnel staff in implementing a team approach to helping students.
- Serve as contributing member of the Admission/I.E.P. team in the evaluation, individual educational programming, and placement of students into special education programs.
- Assist in planning and conducting teacher and parent inservice.
- Keep abreast of trends and developments in the profession.
- Perform other duties assigned by administration.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: • Students with exceptional needs;
- Federal and State legislation affecting the school psychologist;
- A variety of resources and methods to help students, teachers, and parents.
Ability to: • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents;
- Work as a team member;
- Develop an I.E.P.;
- Consult others in a constructive and effective manner.
EXPERIENCE
Previous experience as a school psychologist.
CREDENTIALS
Standard Designated Services with Specialization in Pupil Personnel Services; or
Ryan Services Credential in P.P.S. with authorization in School Psychology; or
General School Services in School Psychology
