SUMMARY OF ROLE
The College Counselor plays a vital role in guiding and supporting students throughout the college admissions process. This position provides comprehensive academic and college advising, including assistance with college selection, application preparation, essay development, and admissions strategy. The Counselor serves as a trusted advisor, empowering students to confidently navigate each stage of their college journey.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and maintain strong, respectful, and empathetic relationships with students and their families, honoring the communities and identities they represent.
  • Educate students and parents on the college admissions process, including application timelines, testing requirements, and current trends in higher education.
  • Support students in identifying colleges and universities that align with their academic interests, goals, and personal values.
  • Offer strategic feedback on college essays and resumes to help students present themselves authentically and effectively.
  • Guide students through the application process, providing detailed review and support on all application components.
  • Prepare students for college interviews through mock interviews and coaching.
  • Advise on academic course selection, extracurricular involvement, and summer or internship opportunities to enhance students' overall candidacy.
  • Participate in team initiatives and contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support students and the organization.

  • Familiarity with key areas of the college admissions process, including:
    • College application platforms (e.g., Common App, UC system)
    • Financial aid systems (FAFSA, CSS Profile)
    • Standardized testing (SAT, ACT)
    • Personal statement and supplemental essay coaching
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. A Masters degree is preferred.
  • 2-5 years of college admissions experience and/or high school college counseling experience.
  • Computer skills, with working knowledge of Google workspace.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check and other pre-employment screening
