PRN Licensed Music Therapist – Hospice
Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Licensed Music Therapist to provide hospice music therapy services to our patients in Houston and the surrounding area. The ideal candidate will support terminally ill patients and their families by offering comfort, emotional support, and symptom management through personalized music therapy interventions in a hospice setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct compassionate assessments of patients’ physical, emotional, and spiritual needs related to their end-of-life journey.
- Develop and implement individualized music therapy treatment plans aimed at providing comfort, reducing anxiety, managing pain, and enhancing quality of life.
- Deliver live or recorded music therapy sessions tailored to each patient's preferences and clinical needs.
- Offer emotional and psychological support to patients and their families, fostering a sense of peace and connection.
- Collaborate closely with hospice team members, including nurses, social workers, chaplains, and physicians, to coordinate holistic patient care.
- Document all services provided, including patient assessments, interventions, and progress notes, in compliance with hospice and licensing regulations.
- Provide education to patients and families about the benefits of music therapy and ways to incorporate music into ongoing care.
- Maintain licensure and stay current on best practices in hospice and music therapy.
Qualifications:
- Current Texas Licensure as a Licensed Music Therapist (LMT) or equivalent certification.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in music therapy from an accredited program.
- Experience working with terminally ill or hospice patients preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and empathetic communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a sensitive and emotionally challenging environment.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for traveling to patient homes or hospice facilities.
- CPR/First Aid certification (may be required or preferred).
Work Environment:
This PRN role involves providing services in patients’ homes, hospice facilities, or community-based settings. Flexibility to respond to patient needs on an as-needed basis is essential.
