Job Summary: Psychologist:

Shift available: Sunday, Monday, 7am – 5pm (OR ) Friday, Saturday, 7am – 5pm

We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Psychologist (PSYL) to provide mental health services to inmates at a state correctional facility in CA. Under the direction of the Senior Psychologist or Chief of Mental Health, the Psychologist will assess, diagnose, and treat inmates with psychological disorders while supporting public safety and rehabilitation efforts.

Qualifications:

• Active California Psychologist License (PSYL) – REQUIRED
• Current BLS Certification from American Heart Association (AHA) – REQUIRED
• Ability to pass background checks and adhere to correctional facility protocols.
• Strong understanding of psychological assessments and mental health diagnoses.
• Experience working in correctional or institutional environments is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct initial mental health and suicide risk evaluations using psychological and criminal case histories.
• Perform mental status exams (MSE) and document findings in SOAP format.
• Provide crisis intervention, face-to-face interviews (including cell front visits), and group psychotherapy.
• Assess, diagnose, and manage psychiatric symptoms and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Administer and interpret psychological assessments and write clinical reports.
• Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team (IDTT) meetings and consult on complex cases.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in medical records.
• Monitor inmate progress and evaluate treatment effectiveness.
• Adhere to community standards of practice and maintain ethical care delivery.
• Provide education and resources to inmates and their families/caretakers (upon proper consent).
• Collaborate with community organizations and agencies for re-entry support.
• Assist inmates in applying for SSI and other community services.
• Maintain facility safety, supervise inmate conduct, and support rehabilitation programs.
• Report incidents in compliance with California mandated reporting laws.

Onboarding Requirements (If Selected):

• Credentialing process (specific to state facility guidelines).
• TB testing and medical clearance (do not begin until instructed).
