REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education POSITION SUMMARY: Through implementation of a comprehensive guidance and counseling program, the school adjustment counselor (School Social Worker) will provide services to address the social and emotional barriers to student achievement. The school adjustment counselor will be responsible for monitoring the social, emotional, and behavioral progress of students and will provide prevention, intervention, and referral services for students with social, emotional and behavioral challenges as needed. This position will work to implement and sustain the BRYT Model Bridge Program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following: Provides strategies and preventative interventions for clinical issues related to all school-age children, including issues surrounding substance abuse, physical, emotional and sexual abuse, violence, health and changes in the family system. Provides individual and/or group counseling as appropriate, utilizing knowledge of principles of therapeutic relationships, personal and systemic change, and use of self in a problem-solving relationship. Makes ongoing assessments of students' functioning through observation and through consultation with colleagues, specialists, outside agencies, families, and sending districts. Actively participates in team meetings (IEP, Section 504, DCAP, Re-entry, Student Support Team) and assists in the development of the students' educational plans as needed. Collaborates with the Special Education Department and other team members to provide school adjustment services for students with identified disabilities. Maintains and analyzes student data and prepares programs and activities to provide support to all student plans. Creates, implements, and monitors behavior plans of students who need them. As identified by students' IEPs, provides all documentation regarding student progress, contact with families and outside agencies and observations. Collaborates with the School Based Health Center staff, including referrals, in formulating treatment plans for students and delivering appropriate mental health services within the building. Provides crisis intervention as needed. Serves as a member of the school's crisis team, as well as responding to other emergency situations. Follows professional guidelines concerning confidentiality, professionalism, and documentation, including the safeguard of student records. Performs any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or their designee. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Massachusetts DESE license as School Social Worker / School Adjustment Counselor required. Masters Degree in Counseling. Experience working as a School Adjustment Counselor / School Social Worker in a school setting preferred. QUALIFICATIONS: Sincere interest in the student population. Ability to promote an operational atmosphere conducive to a good learning situation. Ability to communicate with staff (professional and non-professional). Knowledge of and willingness to implement a comprehensive school counseling program. Knowledge and an ability to cope with adolescents and adults. Ability to operate independently when required within the framework of the position. An ability to communicate effectively with appropriate groups within the school district. Ability to deal with situations with integrity and the best interest of the school community as a primary consideration. Knowledgeable about community service organizations that service the teenage population. Familiarity with BRYT (Bridge for Resilient Youth in Transition) Model Bridge Program. Must be authorized to work in the United States. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a 10 month position. This position is part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Bay Path Teachers Association and the SWCRVSDC. SALARY: $59,152.95 - $105,795.77. Appropriate step on Teacher's salary schedule pursuant to the BPTA CBA.
