What You'll Do:
- Conduct urgent clinical assessments for individuals experiencing emotional distress.
- Review and co-sign mental health screening intakes performed by nursing staff for new arrivals to the facility.
- Develop individualized treatment plans that may include housing location, medication referrals, brief counseling, and referrals for ongoing mental health or substance abuse treatment.
- Perform initial clinical assessments on high-risk individuals within 3 days to ensure timely intervention.
- Provide brief individual or group counseling when clinically appropriate.
- Collaborate on decisions regarding suicide precautions, including continuing, modifying, or discontinuing precautions, with input from appropriate mental health professionals.
- Assist mentally ill individuals in accessing services at the time of their release.
- Cooperate with requests for information by the judicial system, always with appropriate HIPAA considerations.
- Maintain daily and monthly statistics on client contacts and demographic data.
- Attend bi-monthly staff meetings and any other meetings required by the facility administration.
- Participate in site Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) meetings and perform CQI studies to improve the quality of service at the facility.
- Assist in training of custody staff on mental health topics, as requested or expected by the facility.
- Complete all necessary documentation and paperwork on a daily basis.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Active and unrestricted Social Worker license in the state of New York.
- Proven experience in clinical assessment, brief therapy, and community referrals.
- Ability to conduct emergency clinical assessments effectively.
- Strong understanding of treatment planning and crisis intervention.
- Knowledge of mental health and substance abuse resources.
- Familiarity with maintaining client statistics and documentation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
