TITLE: Guidance Counselor - Elementary
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Holds a master's or higher degree in guidance counseling
- Holds a valid Kentucky certificate as an elementary guidance counselor
- Has demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and community
REPORTS TO: Principal/Executive Director Student Services
JOB GOAL: To make guidance and counseling services available to all students, providing for each student's individual needs depending on his/her abilities and interests.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide counseling and guidance activities for students through individual or group settings as needed
- Provide orientation services for new students
- Assist with pre-screening of kindergarten students
- Serve as a consultant with student placement
- Assist in maintaining appropriate student files and records
- Provide consulting services to parents and faculty members
- May be principals' designee to the admissions and release committee
- Coordinate the school's state mandated testing program
- Evaluate the school's guidance program annually
- Provide consulting services with school and community resources on behave of students
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and other self-selected professional growth activities
- Complete both District required in-service training as well as the state mandated Effective Instructional Leadership Training
- Continue successful completion of graduate level courses until standard certification from the Kentucky Department of Education is obtained
- Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the supervisor
