Position Summary

The After School Counselor (know internally as Youth Enrichment Specialist) supports Westminster Neighborhood Services’ holistic youth programming by delivering safe, engaging, and enriching out-of-school-time activities for elementary and middle school students. Under the direction of the Youth & Family Services Manager, this role builds strong relationships with students, facilitates academic and social-emotional development, and fosters an environment of belonging and opportunity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build trusting relationships with youth through consistent, respectful, and strengths-based interactions.
  • Facilitate and supervise youth in daily enrichment activities including academic support, recreation, arts, and STEM.
  • Support social-emotional learning by guiding students through challenges, modeling conflict resolution, and encouraging healthy peer relationships.
  • Prepare and lead planned activities; adapt with flexibility and creativity when plans shift.
  • Collaborate with program partners and team members to deliver a wide range of enrichment opportunities.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive environment by enforcing behavior expectations and adhering to safety protocols.
  • Actively supervise students throughout all program components including meals, transitions, field trips, and arrival/dismissal times.
  • Monitor attendance and behavior, and report concerns or notable student progress to the Youth & Family Services Manager.
  • Participate in staff training, meetings, and professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of Westminster’s youth and family programs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience working with children in school, camp, church, or community-based settings.
  • Able to confidently lead and engage groups of youth in a range of activities.
  • Demonstrates initiative, adaptability, and a commitment to positive youth development.
  • Comfortable working with diverse populations and committed to equity and inclusion.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week

Schedule:

  • 4 hour shift
  • After school
  • Monday to Friday
