POSITION PURPOSE: To provide comprehensive academic, college, career, and personal counseling services that support students enrolled in an early college setting. The counselor ensures that students are meeting both high school graduation and college degree requirements while addressing their developmental, social-emotional, and post-secondary planning needs. This role requires close collaboration with school staff, college personnel, students, and families to foster a successful dual-enrollment experience and promote long-term student achievement.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Advise students on high school and college course selection to ensure graduation and associate degree/certificate completion.
  • Coordinate dual enrollment processes and maintain accurate records of student progress in both high school and college courses.
  • Act as a liaison between the high school, college, and home to ensure clear communication and coordination of services.
  • Monitor academic performance and provide early interventions for students at risk.
  • Collaborate with college advisors, faculty, and administration to align academic pathways and address student needs.
  • Develop and implement college and career readiness activities (e.g., workshops, field trips, guest speakers).
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP), 504, and student support meetings as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of program-wide policies, procedures, and initiatives to support student well-being and success.
  • Actively monitors students to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Assists students in evaluating their strengths using test scores and other data to develop educational and career plans.
  • Provide counseling to support student mental health, stress management, and conflict resolution.
  • Helps students evaluate career interests and choices.
  • Remains readily available to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth and self-understanding.
  • Guides students in their participation in school and community activities.
  • Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks assigned by the Director of TIDES, Chief Instructional Officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have a valid South Carolina teaching certificate or be able to obtain one within 60 days from being hired.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Must have completed a program of study in education from an accredited college or university.
