About Job

Psychologists, LCSWs and LMFTs are encouraged to consider an available Clinical Director position with Liberty Healthcare.

Liberty Healthcare operates a 10-bed acute psychiatric stabilization unit which serves adults who are justice-involved and experiencing acute mental illness.

The unit is located onsite at the Maguire Correctional Facility - a San Mateo County jail located in Redwood City, CA.

The unit admits and treats patients who are under the conditions of an involuntary civil commitment and provides individualized assessment and treatment interventions aimed at achieving psychiatric stability as soon as clinically appropriate. Services are trauma-informed and rooted in the recovery model.

As Clinical Director, your role will involve both management and direct patient care responsibilities, including:

  • Helping ensure patients receive high quality mental health care
  • Assessing patients and collaborating on treatment plans
  • Providing patient-centered mental health services and observing response to treatment
  • Providing leadership, training, consultation, and professional development to clinical and ancillary staff
  • Participating in legal hearings and clinical committee meetings
  • Cultivating harmonious relationships with County officials and custody staff
  • Partnering with Liberty’s payroll, HR, recruiting, finance, quality assurance and operations teams
  • Participating in peer review, utilization management, incident reporting, performance improvement, and quality assurance initiatives
  • Scheduling staff to assure optimal staffing levels based on program census and client needs
  • Championing diversity, equity and inclusion while fostering a mission driven, high performance culture
  • Supporting the Executive Director in the management of the unit and assuming leadership responsibilities during absences

As a full-time employee of Liberty Healthcare in this role, you can expect:

  • Starting salary between $100,000 and $155,000 (depending on degree, licensure, and relevant experience)
  • 30 days of paid time off annually (for holidays, vacation, personal and sick leave)
  • Health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, and disability insurance
  • 401k, Health Savings Account (HSA), and other perks

Your everyday work will impact the mental health and wellbeing of people who are historically underserved and among the most vulnerable mental health patients in the county jail system.

You are a good fit for this position if you possess the following:

  • Professional licensure in California as a Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Experience providing clinical services to adults who are experiencing acute mental illness – ideally within a jail, prison, forensic hospital or inpatient, correctional or residential psychiatric setting
  • Management / leadership experience
  • Knowledge of California’s mental health laws and statutes
