About Job

Organization and Mission:

Founded in 2003, AMI Housing is a California-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to house and support the most vulnerable residents of the Sierra Region by enhancing the lives of people with mental illness by providing housing, employment, and supportive services

Position Summary:

The peer role in Care Court is grounded in five foundational principles: recovery orientation, a person-centered approach, voluntary engagement, a focus on building relationships, and the use of trauma-informed practices. Peers serve as critical supports to individuals navigating the Care Court system by engaging in a variety of activities. These include outreach to encourage participation, one-on-one support, and assisting with the development and implementation of CARE plans. Peers may also attend court hearings and meetings with clients, help coordinate travel or provide transportation, and spend time on planning and documentation. They work closely with other team members, facilitate educational and therapeutic activities, and collaborate with homeless outreach teams. Importantly, peers help clients understand and participate in legal processes, support communication with defense counsel, and advocate for client preferences in court. By sharing their own recovery experiences and promoting a more welcoming, trauma-informed court environment, peers play a vital role in building trust, supporting client autonomy, and fostering more compassionate and effective care within the legal system..
