About the position:
Seeking 1 professional to assist with individualized home supports for a 28 year old gay man with a brain injury (FASD), trauma, and mental health challenges living in Uptown, Minneapolis. He has no physical challenges. This every other weekend position includes collaboratively planning and attending community events which are sometimes within the LGBTQ population, ensuring daily tasks (housekeeping, meal planning/cooking, etc.) are completed and daily physical activity (gym, biking, walking, skiing, curling, etc) is enjoyed.
Our client is a funny and smart guy who lives life to the fullest and is always searching for a loop-hole! He works full-time during the week, has a degree from Dunwoody and is knowledgeable and proficient in many aspects of life. He needs skill building assistance in several specific areas. His brain injury limits executive functioning including decision making skills, memory deficits, organizing and planning, foreseeing consequences, and managing impulsivity. Our client benefits from support in making good decisions and developing skills for greater independence. In addition to a brain injury, the client has a history of significant trauma. He has learned coping skills through extensive mental health support and benefits from positive reinforcement. He is working to improve his reading and writing skills. Driving assistance is required due to an eye problem which affects depth perception and makes driving difficult.
Our client works well with paraprofessionals who teach how to resolve conflict, manage competing priorities, manage emotions, planning and organizing, as well as improving skills deficits.
Qualifications:
-Must be able to think independently, problem solve, take the lead, and motivate the client to successfully manage their home, health, social life, and work readiness.
-Potential applicants need to be able to teach organizational skills, assist with implementing healthy diet strategies (meal planning, shopping, meal prep), ensure future events are planned and scheduled, and daily budgeting is completed. This individual must be able to assist the client with remembering to do daily living chores (i.e. hygiene, laundry, cleaning, and taking medications).
-Must be willing to drive the client to work, social events, medical appointments. A valid driver's license, registration, insurance, and your own vehicle are required.
-The client has a cat and lives on the 4th floor of a building without an elevator. The applicant must not be allergic to cats and able to manage steps.
-Finally, the applicant will be asked to assist in finding activities around town (planning) and accompanying the client to activities. The client has interests in cooking, robotics, history, military history, musicals, drag bingo, curling, fishing, among other things. The applicant will be asked to participate in activities.
Ideal Requirements for Candidates
-a degree in social work, counseling, human services, or education (or currently in school for one of the above) is desirable. The applicant must be assertive, confident, and an independent thinker.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. College experience is beneficial. Knowledge, understanding, and/or experience with disability, autism, FASD is welcomed.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations Required:
Valid driver’s license in good standing. A DMV background check will be conducted. Car registration and vehicle insurance as candidate will be providing transportation for individual receiving services.
