What You'll Be Doing

The Child Welfare Residential Case Aide will provide emergency shelter care and supervision for youth in the custody of Wake County Human Services by providing supervision and structure including implementation of a behavior management system, modeling positive interactions and appropriate behavior, facilitating appointments for health, mental health and other needs, participating in team meetings to assess needs, progress and make recommendations.

Work Hours & Shift Availability

This position requires a commitment of 25-35 hours per week. Applicants must be available to work one of the following shifts based on scheduling needs:

1st Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
2nd Shift: 4:00 PM - 12:00 AM
3rd Shift: 12:00 AM - 8:00 AM

Shifts are scheduled Sunday through Saturday, and flexibility is required. Candidates will be asked to select a preferred shift during the hiring process.

*This is a temporary, part-time role*

Primary duties will be:

  • Providing therapeutic, trauma informed residential intervention methods for children/adolescents with various Mental Health/Substance Use diagnosis ranging in ages from 0-17 as they await placement
  • Monitoring (face to face), administering medication, redirecting behavior, assisting youth in developing life skills that are choice and consequence focused, supervising youth while in the community and transporting them to events, school, and appointments
  • Maintaining a daily log of progress notes and ensure that all notes are completed by end of shift
  • Assisting with community links and resources
  • Maintaining clear access for communication between the youth and their systems of Care individuals (example Social Worker, approved family members/friends, probation officers, case managers, psychiatrist, psychologist, therapist, GAL and those identified as part of program)
  • Maintaining shift coverage to assist in crisis intervention and in case of inclement weather

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of job-related experience
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
  • Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume.
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
  • Bachelor's Degree or college courses in health care, mental health, recreational therapy, education, or human growth & development
  • One year experience as a nurse's aide, mental health aide, psych aide, or the equivalent in a rehabilitation, psychiatric, or similar setting, OR two years of experience working with youth in an inpatient/residential setting, (i.e., Group Home, Detention Center), OR specialized experience with a predominate diagnosis cluster of the patients served (i.e., Teens with MH/IDD/SA)

Emergency Service Worker Statement
