About the Role:
Eaton Rapids Public Schools is hiring a compassionate and skilled School Social Worker to join our Special Education team for the 20252026 school year. This full-time, on-site role supports approximately 40 to 50 students who receive special education services. The position focuses heavily on fulfilling IEP-mandated services, with an emphasis on individual counseling, behavioral and emotional support, and active participation in the development and maintenance of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide social-emotional counseling and support to students in accordance with IEP goals and service minutes.
Collaborate with IEP teams to develop individualized interventions that address students behavioral, emotional, and mental health needs.
Complete social developmental histories and assist in comprehensive special education evaluations and re-evaluations.
Contribute professionally in IEP meetings by presenting data, progress updates, and service recommendations.
Work closely with special education teachers, general educators, school psychologists, and administrators to create inclusive and supportive learning environments.
Offer crisis intervention services and behavior support strategies as needed for students with more intensive needs.
Maintain accurate documentation of services provided and ensure compliance with Michigan Special Education law and district timelines.
Support families in navigating educational services and connect them with relevant community resources.
Qualifications:
Masters degree in Social Work from an accredited program.
Michigan Department of Education (MDE) approval (or eligibility) as a School Social Worker.
Experience with IEPs and providing school-based mental health services to students with disabilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Experience:
Background in trauma-informed practices or behavioral intervention planning.
Experience working with diverse learners in a K12 setting.
Familiarity with school-based electronic documentation systems (such as PowerSchool or Frontline).
Understanding of MTSS and restorative practices.
