To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men and women.
Essential functions, Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Shall register students new to the school and orients them to school procedures and the school's varied opportunities for learning.
  • Shall aid students in course and subject selection.
  • Shall maintain student records and protects their confidentiality and advises the principal on matters relating to computerized student record keeping.
  • Shall work to resolve student's educational handicaps by applying proper diagnostic techniques and planning their educational programs.
  • Shall work to discover and develop special abilities of students.
  • Shall work with teachers and parents to prevent students from dropping out of school.
  • Shall assist in arranging for tutors and summer school work for under achieving students.
  • Shall guide students in their selection of school and community activities in which to participate.
  • Shall obtain and disseminates occupational information to students and to classes studying occupations and advises the principal on matters relating to computerized occupational information systems.
  • Shall help students evaluate career interests and choices.
  • Shall organize and conduct annual "Career Day".
  • Shall work with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustment.
  • Shall confer with parents whenever necessary.
  • Shall assist students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and works with students in evolving education and occupation plans in terms of such evaluation
  • Shall interpret the guidance program to the community.
  • Shall work with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services offered by the student personnel services department, and to improve the educational prospects of individual students being counseled.
  • Shall advise administrators and faculty on the matters of student discipline.
  • Shall assist in the orientation of new faculty members.
  • Shall remain readily available to students so as to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
  • Shall take an active role in interpreting the school's objectives to students, parents, and the community at large.
  • Shall make home visits, when necessary, to building a healthy rapport between parents and children, parents and school, and students and school.
  • Shall provide small group counseling when appropriate to deal with similar student concerns.
  • Shall perform other duties related to the position as assigned by the principal.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Valid Certification as a Guidance Counselor
  • Valid School Socal Worker Certification also accepted in lieu of Guidance Counselor
  • A minimum of three years of experience, preferred
Days worked and salary
  • 201-day contract
