Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Peer Specialist to join our team. This role is designed for individuals with lived experience in mental health or substance use recovery who can provide support, guidance, and encouragement to others facing similar challenges. The Certified Peer Specialist will utilize their personal experiences and training to foster hope, promote recovery, and assist individuals in navigating their own paths to wellness.

Duties

  • Provide one-on-one support to individuals in recovery from mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to encourage clients to set and achieve personal goals.
  • Mentor clients by sharing personal recovery experiences, fostering a sense of hope and resilience.
  • Assist in crisis management by recognizing signs of distress and implementing appropriate crisis intervention strategies.
  • Facilitate group sessions focused on skill-building, coping strategies, and peer support.
  • Collaborate with mental health professionals to develop individualized treatment plans that incorporate peer support.
  • Provide resources and referrals for additional services such as addiction counseling, social work, or behavioral health programs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions and progress while adhering to confidentiality guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Valid Driver License
  • Valid Vehicle Insurance
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Certification as a NC Peer Support Specialist is required.
  • Experience or training in motivational interviewing, mentoring, crisis management, and mental health counseling is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of addiction counseling principles and systems related to behavioral health is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and training in the field of peer support.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
