About the Role:
H&K Smart Fence and American Ground Screw, Inc. are two family-owned global producers and distributors of steel and plastic animal containment and alternative foundation products headquartered in Des Moines IA. With over $10mil in revenue, 24 employees and 2 distribution centers, H&K Smart Fence and American Ground Screw are rapidly growing, early stage companies looking for an organized, committed Bookkeeper that is looking to grow within their field.
The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the financial operations of our wholesale trade business. This includes recording daily transactions, managing accounts payable and receivable, and assisting with financial reporting and tax preparation. The role also involves reconciling bank and credit card statements, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and communicating with vendors, customers, and internal teams. By ensuring our financial data is accurate and up-to-date, the Bookkeeper helps drive informed decision-making and supports the overall efficiency of the organization. This is an office-based position with potential for hybrid arrangements once fully trained and onboarded.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar role.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and other accounting software.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience in the wholesale trade industry.
- Knowledge of payroll tax regulations and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate financial records by recording all transactions in QuickBooks.
- Complete the posting process for day-to-day financial transactions.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Reconcile bank statements and credit card accounts on a monthly basis.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and reports for management review, including balance sheets, profit & loss statements, and general ledger reports.
- Make general ledger adjustments as needed.
- Assist in the preparation of tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
- Communicate with vendors, customers, and internal departments regarding financial matters.
- Maintain organized digital and paper filing systems for financial records.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Proficiency in QuickBooks
- Knowledge of A/P and A/R processes
- Knowledge of bank reconciliation practices
- Knowledge of payroll tax regulations
- Familiarity with financial reporting and general ledger adjustments
- Strong communication and organizational skills
