Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Residential Counselor to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support and care to residents in a long-term care or retirement home setting. Your primary focus will be on enhancing the quality of life for residents through assistance with daily activities, medication administration, and ensuring their rights are upheld. This position requires a strong commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment while fostering positive relationships with residents.
Responsibilities
- Assist residents with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dressing, and mobility support.
- Administer medications as prescribed and monitor residents for any changes in health status.
- Ensure that resident rights are respected and upheld at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in living areas, promoting a safe environment for all residents.
- Engage residents in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and cognitive engagement.
- Document resident progress and any significant changes in behavior or health in accordance with established systems.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and other team members to provide comprehensive care tailored to individual resident needs.
- Participate in training programs related to memory care and long-term care practices.
Skills
- Ability to lift and assist residents safely while adhering to proper lifting techniques.
- Knowledge of memory care principles and best practices for supporting individuals with cognitive impairments.
- Experience in assisting individuals within nursing home or retirement home settings is preferred.
- Strong understanding of resident rights and the importance of dignity in care provision.
- Familiarity with medication administration protocols and safety measures.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with residents, families, and staff members.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while demonstrating empathy and patience towards residents.
