About Job

Academy at the Lakes seeks a passionate and dedicated Middle and Upper Division School Counselor for the 2025-2026 academic year. Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic about working with adolescents and interested in contributing to the full life of the school through coaching in the athletic program or sponsoring a major student organization.

Qualifying Characteristics:

The ideal School Counselor candidate at Academy will be energetic, creative, and dedicated to the care and support of middle and high school students’ social and emotional well-being. Academy at the Lakes values counselors who build meaningful relationships with students and colleagues. A self-starter with a growth mindset, openness to feedback and improvement, and a commitment to lifelong learning are essential characteristics.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Serve as one of two School Counselors for grades 5-12

2. Serve as a member of the Student Support Team and the Student Care Team, focusing on the social and emotional well-being of AATL students

3. Perform required supervisory duties, including lunch, carpool supervision, and extracurricular events

4. Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other conferences as required

5. Contribute to admission-related activities

6. Actively participate in the life of the school by coaching or advising extracurricular activities

Core Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree and certification in K-12 School Counseling preferred.

2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an eye for detail and clarity.

3. Understanding of research-based approaches to support the social and emotional well-being of children and youth.

4. Demonstrated interested in professional development focused on best practices for Independent School Counseling

5. Commitment to Academy’s mission and core values.

6. Desire to be part of a vibrant and active faculty.
