About Agape Substance Abuse Program:
Agape Substance Abuse Program is a licensed outpatient behavioral health organization dedicated to helping individuals and families overcome substance use and related challenges. Serving over 300 clients annually, we offer evidence-based, client-centered care with a 95% success rate in program completion. Agape partners with the criminal justice system, child welfare agencies, and community stakeholders to provide structured treatment services that foster long-term recovery, personal accountability, and positive life change.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a committed and compassionate Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) to provide direct counseling services to clients enrolled in our outpatient substance use treatment program. The counselor will be responsible for conducting assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, facilitating group and individual counseling sessions, and maintaining timely and accurate clinical documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct client assessments using standardized tools to determine appropriate level of care
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans aligned with DSM-5 criteria and ASAM placement guidelines
- Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic group sessions on topics such as relapse prevention, coping skills, anger management, and family dynamics
- Provide individual counseling to support personal growth, recovery, and goal achievement
- Maintain timely, accurate, and professional documentation in the electronic health record system
- Coordinate care with probation officers, CPS caseworkers, courts, and other referring entities as required
- Participate in treatment planning meetings, clinical supervision, and case staffings
- Monitor client progress toward treatment goals and adjust plans as needed
- Educate clients on recovery principles, resources, and support networks
- Uphold ethical and professional standards in accordance with LCDC licensure and state regulations
Required Qualifications:
- Current, active LCDC license issued by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC)
- Minimum 1 year of experience in substance abuse counseling or behavioral health (internship experience may be considered)
- Working knowledge of group dynamics, recovery principles, and trauma-informed care
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems (TherapyNotes and DHSH preferred)
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Must pass background check and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications:
- in English and Spanish
- Experience working with justice-involved individuals, CPS cases, or co-occurring disorders
- CPR/First Aid Certification
