Job Summary And Qualifications

Under the general direction of the Laboratory Administrative Director, provides leadership and oversight of Point of care testing (POCT).

  • Directs operations of the designated areas of responsibility.
  • Acts as a liaison between the lab and hospital staff for point of care and cultivates a good communication network.
  • Interacts with patients, doctors and visitors with grace and tact.
  • Provides technical/consultative expertise to the lab, POCT operators and other members of the healthcare team in resolution of issues and problems.
  • Assists in selection, acquisition, evaluation, verification and implementation of POCT methodologies and equipment. Identifies learning needs of staff and designs and implements training programs as needed.
  • Trains and evaluates POCT operators for use of appropriate techniques and proper performance of procedures including annual competencies.
  • Monitors inventory of testing supplies, orders as necessary and assures QC of supplies is completed prior to use.
  • Reviews quality control and patient data to identify and resolve problems and provides feedback to hospital staff, laboratory medical and administrative directors and to regulatory agencies as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in medical technology/clinical laboratory science or related science
  • Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited medical technology/clinical laboratory science program
  • MT/MLS with NAACLS accredited certification (i.e. ASCP, AMT)
  • Knowledge of general laboratory science and point of care testing principles
  • Knowledge of laboratory regulatory/accreditation requirements
  • Three years in a clinical laboratory
  • Maintenance and improvement of our point of care testing program
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining a high degree of accuracy; detail oriented, verbal and written communication, mature judgment
  • Personal computer, Microsoft Office programs, general lab analyzers, and point of care testing instrument

Overland Park Regional Medical Center is a 340+ bed facility offering acute medical services to our patients. We are Johnson County’s only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Level II Trauma Center. We have an Accredited Stroke and Chest Pain Center. Our hospital is a premier area destination for Women's & Children’s healthcare services. We offer the region’s only Maternal Fetal Health Center to care for critically ill mothers and their babies. Our hospital has an antepartum unit, a labor and delivery unit, and a Level III NICU. We have four emergency rooms, including a dedicated Pediatric emergency room and two freestanding ERs located in Olathe and Shawnee. Each year our colleagues treat over 45,000 patients.
