About Job

We are a small play-based, experiential all-outdoor camp located in The Catskills looking for Camp Counselors to engage with campers across a variety of ages. We run a variety of camps for children aged 2-5, 4-8, 5-10, and 6-12. While safety is always the most important part of your job, engaging in positive interactions and having fun with the campers is a close second. If you’re patient, energetic and firm when needed, we’d love to chat!

This particular position is for an after-care role and partners with one other counselor to offer extended day options for families already enrolled in camp. Many families need extended day care for their children beyond the 2pm closing time of many of our camps. This position runs 2-5pm M-F starting July 7 - August 8th. Holiday closures or camp closures due to weather are paid days off.

Responsibilities

  • Work with your fellow counselor to plan outdoor activities for groups of campers
  • Lead recreational and educational activities (such as crafting, hiking, or putting on a play)
  • Escort and oversee children
  • Educate campers through games and explorations
  • Support children finding resolutions to disagreements and address behavioral issues
  • Make sure all safety rules are followed
  • Ensure camp site is clean and that campers don’t litter recreational areas or nature
  • Perform first aid or take care of injuries as needed
  • Keep accurate incident, attendance, and fire drill logs
  • Check in with parents and caregivers at pickup time
  • Communicate any concerns or problems to both the camp lead and camp director at the end of each day.

Skills

  • Proven experience as Camp Counselor or similar role working with children
  • Familiarity with camping, hiking, and/or various outdoor activities
  • Patient and reliable
  • Organizational and communication skills
  • A love for children
  • Energetic and positive personality
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (strength and stamina to follow strenuous activities like hiking, running, crouching or carrying children)
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate with parents on a day-to-day basis.
