Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Addiction Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in addiction counseling and be committed to helping individuals overcome their substance use disorders. This role involves providing both individual and group counseling, developing treatment plans, and supporting clients through their recovery journey. The Addiction Counselor will work in a collaborative environment, engaging with clients and their families to promote healing and wellness.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans following ASAM criteria.
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling using approved therapeutic modalities.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation compliant with COMAR and MCVET standards.
- Collaborate with case managers, medical providers, and external partners to support holistic care.
- Participate in clinical supervision and continuing education to maintain certification and licensure.
- Monitor client progress and revise treatment plans as needed.

Qualifications:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree from a Board-approved regionally accredited educational institution in social work, a health and human services counseling field, or other field deemed substantially equivalent by the Board. In addition, one must have completed specific coursework, an internship, and supervised clinical experience under the supervision of a Board-approved alcohol and drug supervisor.
- Preferred: Licensed Social Worker, Addictions Counselor, or Counselor (LMSW, LCSW-C, LGPC, LCPC, LCADD), two or more years in an Alcohol or other drug health setting with supervised clinical experience by a Board-approved alcohol and drug supervisor.
- Active certification as a Certified Supervised Counselor–Alcohol and Drug (CSC-AD), Certified Associate Counselor–Alcohol and Drug (CAC-AD), or Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) in Maryland.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in substance use counseling, preferably with veteran populations.
- Knowledge of COMAR regulations governing behavioral health and substance use treatment.
- Proficiency in clinical documentation and electronic health records.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and crisis intervention skills.
- Experience working in residential or transitional housing programs.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care and co-occurring disorders.
