About Us

Whole Village Art Therapy is a New Orleans based non-profit that provides high quality, community-based art therapy services to improve access and reduce systemic barriers to mental health services. Our team of highly qualified art therapists provide a wide variety of services, including free and sliding scale individual and group art therapy, school based art therapy services, counseling, community art making, and professional development.


Purpose of Position

To provide art therapy and other related services as part of a unique arts based diversion program that will support system-involved youth and help plan and facilitate art therapy events in the community or with community partners. 60% of your time will be spent facilitating individual art therapy sessions as part of the diversion program with the support of a team of art therapists. This position will offer a variety of environments and opportunities to flex and grow your skills. The position will be tailored to the therapist’s skill set and interest in terms of which community partners they work with. Therapists will help plan and facilitate art therapy events in the community or with community partners. We work with all ages and meet a wide variety of needs. Paperwork is kept to a minimum so we can focus on client services. Supervision for all staff, peer supervision, and team support are built into your schedule for all skill levels of therapists. This position can be offered as a director or supervisory role with commensurate salary for those who qualify.


Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide high quality art therapy and counseling services to children, students, young adults, and community members to address various needs
  • Create and implement group art therapy directives specific to needs of clients
  • Collaborate and consult regularly and effectively with art therapy team to ensure continuity of care and appropriate facilitation of duties
  • Develop and manage treatment plans and other culturally appropriate therapeutic and community-building activities
  • Consultation with teachers, parents, facilitators, mental health staff, and other professionals
  • Complete clinical documentation efficiently
  • Prioritize necessary tasks daily and adapt to change appropriately
  • Help plan and engage community in art making events
  • Attend and be an active participant in case consultation and individual or group supervision
  • Help in group response to community crisis or disaster
  • Actively participate in the growth of the organization
  • Assist with administrative tasks and other duties as needed


Requirements

  • Master's degree in art therapy
  • Minimum 2 years art therapy experience. This position is designed for a highly qualified art therapist but responsibilities may adjust to accommodate the right candidate.
  • Registered Art Therapist or working to obtain ATR per guidelines of the Art Therapy Credentials Board
  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Louisiana (this may not be a requirement for all community partnerships)
  • Highly organized – you will have some autonomy with your schedule and will need to be able to accommodate clients, teammates, and personal schedules
  • Experience with youth who are living with trauma and severe emotional/mental health needs
  • Skilled in culturally appropriate understanding and interventions
  • Knowledge and belief in restorative practices
  • Strong group facilitation skills
  • Experience working with historically excluded people
  • Passion for working with people who come from communities that have been historically marginalized with an understanding of equitable care
  • Willingness to grow as an art therapist, artist, clinician, and person
  • Ability to adapt and learn about a variety of different populations with diverse art therapy needs
  • Ability to prioritize necessary tasks daily and adapt to change appropriately
  • Preferred - fluency in Spanish
  • Be able to carry 25 pounds up 2 flights of stairs


Compensation and Benefits

Starting range is $50,000 - $70,000 per year. Salary is commensurate with experience and licensure. This is a starting salary range. Bonuses and raises are offered frequently. Salary rate reflects cost of living in the New Orleans area. We offer medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as unlimited PTO.
