Description
Wellness Equity Alliance (WEA) is a novel national public health organization comprised of a multidisciplinary team of population and public health experts with backgrounds in infectious disease, public health, emergency medicine, primary care, cardiology, pediatrics, psychiatry, community health work (CHW), nursing and advanced practice pharmacy. We work nearly exclusively with underrepresented communities, fundamentally addressing health-care disparities and the social determinants of health (SDoH) that have been amplified during the COVID-19 pandemic, prioritizing the following:
- People experiencing homelessness
- Indigenous communities
- Immigrant communities
- Rural communities
- BIPoC communities
- LGBTQIA+ communities

Wellness Equity Alliance seeks a full-time board-certified psychiatrist licensed in New Mexico to provide behavioral health services across diverse program settings, including a school-based mental health program and an outpatient clinic.

Position Location & Service Delivery - New Mexico
This position is based in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, and follows a hybrid care model involving in-person and telehealth services.
We are seeking a New Mexico-licensed psychiatrist who can:
- Provide in-person psychiatric evaluations and medication consultations once per week via our mobile health units, rotating across various school sites throughout Bernalillo County.
- Conduct follow-up appointments through telehealth, ensuring consistent access to care for students and families.
- Be available for on-site services at our downtown Albuquerque clinic once or twice weekly for additional in-person visits, team collaboration, and case consultation.
- Provide combined treatment for mental health and substance use disorders
This role is part of a multidisciplinary team working to increase access and equity in behavioral health services throughout Bernalillo County.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations and assessments of patients to determine appropriate treatment plans
- Review patient's medical history and collect additional information from family members, other providers, and external agencies (e.g., school personnel, social services, housing agencies, criminal legal system)
- Provide psychiatric treatment to patients using evidence-based practices, including initiation and management of psychopharmacological interventions
- Provide crisis intervention when needed
- Monitor and track patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed
- Administer, Score, and Analyze Psychiatric Tests
- Coordinate with external healthcare professionals and external agencies (e.g., school personnel, social services, housing agencies, criminal legal system)
- Collaborate with therapists, community health care workers, primary care providers, and external healthcare providers to facilitate comprehensive patient care.
- When needed, provide indirect consultation to the patient's primary care provider, therapist, and community health care workers.
- If needed, supervise PMHNP providers.
- When indicated, provide psychoeducation and medication teaching to patients, family members, and external agencies.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare providers.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of patient care
- Participate in peer supervision and professional development activities
- Keep up-to-date with professional job knowledge by reading publications, attending educational conferences, or maintaining professional networks.
- Follow ethical and legal policies, procedures, and standards.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Degree from an accredited institution
- Board certification
- Active and unrestricted license to practice in New Mexico
- DEA
- Experience providing psychiatric treatment to patients
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based psychiatric practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A proactive approach with a strong work ethic and desire to participate in a collaborative environment.
- A commitment to high-quality, cost-effective health care.
- Comfortable using electronic medical records
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain medical terms and conditions to a non-medical audience
- Strong observation skills to accurately evaluate patients' demeanor and identify symptoms
- A great bedside manner and the ability to remain calm, empathetic, and patient while interacting with patients who suffer from severe mental disorders
- Thoughtful and compassionate
- Preferred - Fellowship in Child/Adolescent Psychiatry, familiarity with school-based mental health programs, familiarity with re-entry programs
Salary Description
$200,000 to $250,000 per year
