Job Summary
The Victim Advocate is responsible for ensuring that the 32nd Judicial District Child Advocacy Center maintains a child-friendly environment for investigative interviews with children and families dealing with allegations of severe child abuse. The Victim Advocate provides a variety of services to the children we serve as well as to the non-offending parent (s) or caregiver(s). The Victim Advocate serves as the primary point of contact to the family, shepherding them through the process and helping link them to the services they need. The Victim Advocate (CFA) serves as a liaison between the child/family and other members of the Child Protective Investigative Team (CPIT).
Responsibilities
- Provide court orientation to children and families who are faced with the possibility of testifying in court. This includes coordinating with the Victim Witness Coordinator and the District Attorney’s office handling the case.
- Maintain confidential case files on all clients of 32nd Judicial District Child Advocacy Center. This includes preparing timely, thorough, and accurate case notes of family advocacy sessions, data collection, data entry, and maintenance of the computerized case tracking system.
- Provide regular updates of child and family needs to other CAC staff and to the Child Protective Investigative Team.
- Distribute and document client satisfaction surveys on a regular schedule and document results in the database system.
- Provide child abuse prevention educational curriculum as needed/requested to both clients and members of the communities of Lewis, Hickman, and Perry Counties.
- Participate in 32nd Judicial District Child Advocacy Center initiatives and activities, such as fundraisers and other campaigns or events.
- Maintain a flexible schedule and be willing to travel between Hickman, Lewis, and Perry Counties, including traveling to each of these counties within the same day.
- Sometimes work hours will exceed a typical working day where emergency services are needed. Ability to be contacted in the event of an "on-call" situation is required. Additionally, some organization events may take place after hours or on weekends where staff may be required to attend.
- Assist with other duties as determined by the Executive Director, including but not limited to fundraising and outreach events.
Education & Experience
- Educational and Professional Requirements: B.S. Degree in a Social Work, Child Development, or other social services related field. Degrees outside of the social services field may be considered upon review of transcripts.
- Experience working with children and families and in a team environment
- Ability to work well across disciplines
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Must work effectively with individuals from various economic, social, and cultural backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal skills with children, families, and community partners
- Exceptional work ethic and professionalism
- Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills
- Knowledgeable of impacts of trauma in children and families
- Comfort in public speaking to large and small groups; effective communication skills with both adults and children
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the multidisciplinary team approach to investigations of child abuse
- Knowledge of evidence-based educational curricula
- Knowledge of the research about and interplay of child abuse, neglect, and trauma
- Understanding of community-based resources
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $38,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
